CLERGY CHANGES AT SETON
Dear Members of the Seton Parish Family,
Saint Paul, in chapter four of his Letter to the Philippians, advises the People of God:
Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.
And so we have prayed for Father Figueroa’s recovery, and, although he is feeling better, it has been made known to me that he will not be able to return to regular ministry here at Seton.
Please continue to pray for him. Father Figueroa is naturally disappointed that he will not be able to return to his beloved Seton, but he is accepting of God’s will. His time at Seton has been a blessing for us all. We look forward to seeing him again and appropriately thanking him for his priestly ministry among us, when the time is right.
In his concern for us here at Seton and for the considerable needs of our parish, Cardinal Dolan has decided to appoint Father Kareem Smith as a replacement for Father Figueroa. Father will assume duties as a Parochial Vicar here on July 1
Father Smith, a Bronx native, attended Saint Joseph Seminary and was ordained at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral by Cardinal Dolan in 2018. He is completing his first assignment at Annunciation / Fatima Parish in Crestwood. Our own Father Robert Carolan has been assigned to take his place there. Many of you know Father Smith from his summer seminary internship at Assumption Parish, Peekskill. We welcome him and ask the Lord to bless his ministry at Seton.
In addition, I am pleased to announce that Cardinal Dolan has appointed me to another six years as the Pastor of this wonderful community of faith. I have grown to appreciate you all the more in Father Figueroa’s absence. Your concern for him has been inspirational. Your concern for Father Madu, Deacon Wilson and me as we carried on has been most touching. And your willingness to help out has made all the difference in the world.
Please continue to pray as, following Saint Paul, we endeavor to follow the Lord’s will in all things.
Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Please continue to pray for the priests we have, and the priests we need.
