SETON UPDATE: A SECOND FINANCIAL REPORT & APPEAL
A SECOND FINANCIAL REPORT & APPEAL
Dear Members of the Seton Parish Family:
The Peace of Christ!
I hope that you are your families are well as we continue to work through this pandemic and its many effects.
The last time I sent you a financial report was back in May. Then, I reported that all contributions were down. At that time, the regular collection was down 27% over last year, and the Easter Collection was down 33%.
As we moved on over the weeks, our financial picture has improved a bit as more and more people returned to church and began, once again, dropping off their collection envelopes and making contributions electronically on WeShare.
Daily Mass attendance has returned to its usual number of people this time of year. Daily Eucharistic Adoration has seen a steady numbers of adorers.
Saturday afternoon / Sunday attendance has been inching up week by week. For example, the following is our Mass count so far in August:
August 01-02, 619 people
August 15-16, 661 people
August 22-23, 689 people.
In comparison, we would usually have over 2,100 people at Mass each weekend during the summer months.
The Sunday 2pm “Drive Thru” distribution of Holy Communion has been quite well received. We are averaging about 30 people. This has been one of the many ways we have adapted to minister to our people during these uncertain times.
Since our church fiscal year ends next week on Monday, August 31
, I thought that this would be an appropriate time to give you an update and to seek your help.
As the chart below reveals, we are facing an offertory shortfall of over $90,000.00 this year when compared to the same time last year. This figure includes over $10,000.00 that we did not realize in the 2020 Easter Collection. Remember, we rely on your generous Easter and Christmas offerings to balance our budget each year.
This weekend’s Second Collection is our yearly “Summer Catch Up” collection. May I ask you and your family to consider using this weekend to “catch up” if you have not been able to contribute during the pandemic? For those of you that have, we thank you for your faithful stewardship and respectfully request that you make a special offering this weekend to help us close our budget gap.
Envelopes may be dropped:
in the collection boxes at the doors of the church on Saturday afternoon / Sunday
in the collection box at the altar during the week
at the rectory during office hours, Monday – Friday from 9am-5pm
using WeShare electronic giving (visit our website so register:
Although it is difficult for any of us to plan for the future, with the crucial assistance of our Finance Council, we have attempted to create a budget for 2020-2021 which reflects our current realities. Never taking your generosity for granted, we have made every attempt to introduce economies and cost savings wherever possible, without sacrificing the necessary services that you so deserve and that so many have come to expect from Seton.
Thanking you in advance for your generous response to this appeal and invoking God’s blessings upon you and your families, I remain…
Sincerely yours in Christ,
